Artist Statement
The world was built on storytelling. The Epic of Gilgamesh, the first story ever written, dates back 2100 BC. The first known theatrical performance emerged in ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece. Storytelling predates modern religion and storytelling is what helped them gain life. Shakespeare is regarded as the greatest writer in the English language. His writing and stories are credited with inventing over 1,700 words that are still used to this day. From society to culture to religious beliefs to the very languages we speak. Everything we know about this world and our ways of life comes from story telling. It’s rooted in the very word itself: history, as in his story.

Part of what makes story telling such a strong tradition is the entertainment it provides. People hear more, understand more, when things are put in ways they understand. In ways that entertain, that capture attention. The other part of what makes story telling so strong is the community it creates. Story telling draws people together. It draws people in. I, as an artist, want to reach as many people as possible. I aspire to be heard by as many as possible and to help people understand. I aspire to connect and communicate with as many as possible and bring them together. I seek to maintain what is arguably the longest standing tradition in the world. I strive as an artist to keep story telling alive. I strive to keep history alive.
